NECK KNIVES
Same steel and heat treatment as all AF knives.These will usually be puukko (Nordic style), but diminutive. Just the right size for a wife, girlfriend, or small Norwegian.
BLACK WALNUT NECK KNIFE. Exceptionally fine figure in this American Black Walnut. The sheath is wet-formed and hand-stitched. Each hole is individually marked and punched with an awl, the edged of the leather are beveled, and the stitch is completed with the double-needle technique. The wood in the sheath and handle are cut from the same piece of premium crotch grain wood. This knife has a full--length threaded tang; the metal cap on the pommel is a hand-embellished cutlery nut. During assembly, the handle is filled with AccraGlass adhesive and the pommel nut is used to snug the handle and blade together. The blade is 1095 high carbon steel, embellished with file work on the spine. overall length, 6 1/2 inches; blade length 2 3/4 inches. Price: $275 plus postage and insurance.

The knife on the left is 5 3/4 inches overall, with a 2 1/2 inch blade. The sheath (look closely) is pauted with a butterfly, and a butterly is incised into the spine of the blade. DESERT IRONWOOD handle and 1095 high carbon steel blade with decorative filework on the spine. This the blade is forged and heat treated as carefully as my full-size knives. Nickel silver bolster with hammer finish. The sheath is a traditional Nordic tuppi, wet-formed to the knife, and supplied with a sturdy leather thong. As with many best-quality, full-size puukko, the sheath extends past the swell in the handle so when the knife is inserted it seats with a very positive feel. BIG LEAF OAK. This is stabilized Big Leaf Oak--water resistant and low maintenance. 1095 high carbon steel blade, with decorative filework the length of the spine and on the lower edge of the ricasso. The forward surface of the yellow brass bolster has a hammer finish and an absolutely no-gap blade-to-bolster fit. The sheath is wet-formed to the knife and embossed (pauted) with a freehand design. Two sterling silver beads are added to the leather neck thong. Length: blade, 2 5/8 inches; overall 5 3/4 inches. Price: $200 plus shipping and insurance.
BLACKWOOD/OOSIC handle. African Blackwood (sometimes African Blackwood Rosewood) is a dense, stable wood with subtle burgundy undertones. Oosic is fossilized Walrus penile bone. It polishes like ivory. The blade is 1095 high carbon steel with decorative filework the length of the spine. The lower edge of the ricasso is fluted. The sheath is glove leather, wet-formed to the knife and pauted (embossed). A leather thong, accented with two carved bone beads, is provided. Length: blade, 2 7/8 inches; overall: 5 3/4 inches.
