Arcadia Forge Knives...

There are some ideas that are so deeply embedded in the merchandising industry we often take them to be facts rather than the marketing ploys they are. Take the idea that "new is better." There are countless products, knives included, that get purchased because the maker has promised some new or high-tech feature.

Arcadia Forge has no problem at all with "new" or high-tech, when it adds something to the quality of the product. When it comes to knives, however, there is much to be said for "old". Some of the most functional--not to say beautiful--knife designs are traditional patterns that have been around for centuries, or even millenia. They endure because they work, and because they are pleasing to look at. The puukko, skean dhu, and dirk are just a few examples of highly successful traditional designs.

A tradition is way of doing things that endures because it works. At Arcadia Forge, I build innovative variations on traditional designs.

I forge blades only from new 1095, 1084, and 5160 carbon steel bar stock. Both of these are time-tested and highly regarded knifemaking steels. Blades are carefully heat-treated, and will have a flat grind and forge marks above the grind line.

Most blades include filework on the spine, at no extra charge. I buff to a matt or satin finish, then precision grind a final bevel on each blade and hand-hone it to a keen edge.
